Women are Making a Splash in Fly Fishing

It’s no secret that women comprise the fastest growing demographic in the sport of fly fishing. In fact, it’s said by some that it’s only growing demographic in a world of over 6.5 million anglers. Boasting over 31% of the current market, the ‘X’ factor is becoming a force with which to be reckoned on rivers, lakes and streams around the globe.

Even though studies have long since shown that women make better anglers, the sport of fly fishing was dominated from the beginning by tweed-clad old men who held little space for their feminine counterparts. But, as Bob Dylan so eloquently put it, ‘the times, they are a-changing.’ This none-to-subtle shift in the trajectory of an age-old sport is due, in large part, to folks like those at Fly Fishing Outfitters in Avon, Colorado.

Fly Fishing Outfitters has been serving the Vail Valley since 1992, just shortly after Vail itself was established, becoming the linchpin for one of the most famous stretches of highways and byways anywhere. A mainstay in the angling community for the last three decades, Fly Fishing Outfitters is locally owned and operated, offering fly fishing experiences year-round…the first in the Valley to do so. They don’t believe there are ‘best seasons,’ just ‘best places,’ and they’re dedicated to providing once-in-a-lifetime experiences in those very spots.

FFO has been an Orvis-endorsed outfitter since day one, aligning themselves with some of the highest standards in the industry. They are the only Orvis-endorsed guide service in the Vail Valley, offer the only Orvis fly fishing school in the entire state of Colorado and are a two-time recipient of the coveted Orvis Endorsed Outfitter of the Year Award. With over 35 guides on staff, and over 300 years combined guiding experience, it’s no wonder that their name has become as synonymous with excellence in fly fishing as the blue winged olive has become with epic fall hatches. There isn’t a fly fishing outfitter in Colorado that’s more qualified to blaze new trails than FFO.

Fly Fishing Outfitters has demonstrated their passion for, and exemplified their commitment to, the world of fly fishing for thirty years, and they’re likely just getting started. Leaving no stone unturned, they’d like to invite you along on the next leg of their adventure as they introduce ‘Women in Waders,’ to folks in the Vail Valley and beyond. This premier fly fishing community is the first of its kind in the area and has been designed specifically with the female angler in mind. This exciting and long-awaited venture will help to empower women as they gain knowledge and confidence, on and off the water. It will help them step powerfully and unhindered into their own fishing experiences and provide them a community of like-minded individuals with whom they can network, grow and, of course, fish.

If you’re a female looking to get into the sport or a woman looking for ongoing resources to improve your game on the water, then look no further. This is exactly what you’ve been waiting for.
