Orvis Men’s Ultralight Wading Boot
The Orvis Mens Ultralight Wading Boots are made to perform best in every situation and offer you better grip. The EVA outsole grip slick offers better grip on every surface especially on wet surfaces. The ultralight wading boot fits very comfortably on your feet although they feel a little snug when you use them with the thickest neoprene wader boots. Most of the weight of the boots is concentrated at the base. Overall the Orvis Mens Ultralight Wading Boots create a perfect balance between weight and performance.

The Orvis Mens Ultralight Wading Boots are lightweight, but offer high performance on fishing destinations and other locations. The weight of the boots is significantly less than any other boot in its class. The Ultralight has a mid-rise design with a hiking shoe-like fit. You can walk several miles to reach some remote rivers in a national park, and the boots will work well on all terrains whether dry or wet.
The Ultralight Wading Boots fit perfectly over waders, with a narrow heel and spacious toe area for a secure hold when walking with compression on the toes. When worn alone, a second pair of socks would be a suitable replacement for waders, although a thin neoprene sock would be better, warmer solution.
The ultralight wading boot can also be used for climbing steep canyon walls or sliding down muddy banks in a river. The heel comfortably supports the foot without slipping and the lacing system is secure and comfortable. There is a lockable lace hook in the arch of the foot that is a nice addition to ensure a better fit.
Grip on Land
The Vibram EVA sole used by Orvis offers the best grip on river rocks of all felt-free boots in their class. That grip seems to be the result of both the rubber compound and the lug pattern of the outsole. Orvis designers built a solid TPU plate into the midsole to protect the optional traction lugs. The midsole also provides good support for the outsole’s rubber grips, helping them stick to rocks for a firmer grip. The sole is notched to accommodate these optional cleats for extra traction in extremely slippery conditions.
This rubber outsole offers good grip even on dry, wild trails, which came in handy when hiking in remote trout waters in a national park.
At a little over a pound per shoe (size 13!), The Ultralights are heavier than hiking boots of a similar size, but much lighter than any other flat boot in this class. Polyester mesh and polyurethane-coated nylon fabric on the top repel water quickly, help keep weight down during use and dry quickly.
The lightweight design makes the boots useful on the go – the small size and moderate weight make them suitable for luggage when flying to fishing targets.
While the Ultralight’s good traction is partly due to the soft, sticky nature of the rubber sole, this texture also accelerates the abrasion of the soles. These boots are likely to be worn regularly for a few seasons before the sole wears out beyond its intended use.
In addition to the limited lifespan of the soles, Orvis Ultralights are characterized by high durability, which is in contrast to their low weight. The fabric used to construct the upper has proven itself to be very durable, and this performance is enhanced by the use of an abrasion-resistant rubber coating in the heavily used areas in the toe and heel area.
