The Orvis Clearwater fly reel includes many great features, including its durability.
Orvis has given a Rulon disc drag in a die cast large arbor that is close to bombproof. The fly reel offers a surprisingly smooth pickup as well.
The Clearwater is a cast aluminum reel with a stacked stainless steel disc brake system. Thanks to corrosion-resistant elements, it is strong and durable. In the latest edition, the frame is lighter, but still incredibly strong.
Clearwater has 100 yards of backup capacity. It is unlikely that you will use this reel in saltwater for large fish, so you don’t have to worry about line running out and coming back.
This spool is available in two models: Clearwater II for 4-6 rod line weights and Clearwater IV for 7-9 weights. Clearwater is available in a unique color combination, powder coated matt gray. It has a flawless finish, and is one of the highest quality machined spools on the market today.
Clearwater has a simple design, clean lines and an airy feel due to its generous portability (which also helps reduce unnecessary weight), and is in general a quality product.
Boot inertia is virtually non-existent. There is nothing more irritating than a sticky resistance that will make you lose a lot once you stall!
The Clearwater is built with a durable and efficient modular stainless steel / rulon disk drive system. The maximum resistance you can get on this reel is around 5 pounds, but that’s enough for most freshwater flying scenarios. When compared to other coils in the same price range, Clearwater definitely outperforms this one!
Clearwater has other great features too like the brake knob, which has a nice shape and texture so you can grip it firmly. You will hear clicks as you turn it so you can measure how far you need to go to get the perfect drag.
Switching from right-hand to left-hand operation is also very quick and easy with this spool. The easy-to-release spool is another welcome addition, and the pull handle is also ergonomically designed and easy to use.
The Clearwater costs around $89, and you can purchase a replacement reel for just $ 49, which is why this reel is so popular with fly fishers, especially when you are on a budget but still want to have fun and maximize your love for fly fishing!
